AVUK

There are 7,200 deaf children under the age of 5 in the UK who face a lifetime of disadvantage.  At current estimates, they will likely have lower academic achievement, lower employment prospects and to be at higher risk of bullying, social exclusion, and poor mental health. This should not be the case. Through early years intervention, we can transform deaf children’s and their family’s lives.  This is Auditory Verbal UK’s objective.

AVUK delivers a highly specialised, intensive early-intervention programme of Auditory Verbal therapy which is proven to be highly effective in delivering spoken language outcomes for young deaf children. As many as 80% of children who spend two or more years on the programme achieve ‘age appropriate’ language skills.

AVUK’s mission is for all families with a deaf child to have the opportunity to access such a programme if they want their child to develop the listening, talking, thinking and social skills to thrive at school and beyond. To achieve fair access, AVUK needs to train enough specialist practitioners to deliver Auditory Verbal therapy to families across the UK in the critical first few years of their child’s life.

Wonder of Sound

The Wonder of Sound was founded in 2019 by Lindsey and Jorge Villon.  Wonder of Sound was created to provide awareness, funding, and support to Auditory Verbal after experiencing first-hand the work of the charity following the birth of their daughter, Grace, who was born profoundly deaf.  Today, as a seven-year-old, Grace speaks and interacts like any hearing child, is in a mainstream London school where she continues to excel and thrive thanks in large part to the efforts of AVUK, their unique approach to auditory verbal therapy and their dedicated staff.

100% of the proceeds generated via the auction and pledges on the evening go directly to Auditory Verbal.
